Camilla Hoitenga is referred to as a true musician of the 21st century: versatile, idealist and maximalist. She has given concerts in the world’s music capitals including Salzburg, Paris, Tokyo, New York and Helsinki. Her international repertoire reflects her eclectic interests: she performs Bach at the Concertgebouw, collaborates with Buyo dancers in Tokyo Theatre and has recorded works for flute and electronics for German Radio.
The flautist’s intensive collaborations with composers have allowed her to perform compositions such as K. Stockhausen’s Amour in Germany, K.-I. Kobayashi’s Four Scenes for Flute and Orchestra in Osaka, K. Saariaho’s (with whom she has collaborated since 1982) Concerto Aile du songe in Brussels. Hoitenga also teams up with painters, improvises in art galleries and museums.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA), she graduated from the University of Illinois (M.Mus., D.M.A.). She now lives in Germany, teaches in Folkwang College in Essen as well as New York University and gives master classes in her private studio.
