Formed in 1995 in Bucharest, Romania, ConTempo are recognized as one of the world’s top string quartets. They have won numerous international prizes and have worked with many celebrated quartets, including the Amadeus, Alban Berg, Emerson, Hagen and Tokyo Quartets and other world-renowned artists. They have toured the world extensively giving more than 1,000 performances, including their New York Carnegie Hall debut in 2008. ConTempo String Quartet has held the position of Galway Ensemble in Residence since 2003. In their role at the heart of The Galway Music Residency, they have brought the joy of music to the people of Galway city, county and beyond. Their work in education has added greatly to the musical landscape of the city and county offering children aged 4 to 18 the opportunity to meet, watch, listen and learn from these world class musicians. Their invaluable contribution to Classical Music in the region has also involved live solo performances and many collaborative concerts with internationally renowned guest artists across all musical genres.
