Maxim Rysanov performs worldwide as a concert soloist and a chamber musician. He is recognised as one of the world’s finest and most charismatic viola players. Amongst his notable appearances has been the BBC Last Night of the Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jiri Belohlavek.
Rysanov is a past recipient of both the Classic FM / Gramophone Young Artist of the Year and the BBC New Generation awards. He is also a prize-winner of the Geneva International Music Competition and Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition amongst others. Originally from Ukraine, he studied with Maria Sitkovskaya in Moscow and with John Glickman in London.
Rysanov has a strong interest in new music and has premièred works and new commissions by many composers, including Dobrinka Tabakova and Richard Dubugnon. Of his recordings to date, no fewer than three of his discs have been selected as Gramophone Editor’s Choice.
Maxim Rysanov plays a Giuseppe Guadagnini (1780) viola, which is on generous loan from the Elise Mathilde Foundation.
